Do salvia plants come back each year?

According to the National Gardening Association, some salvia species are perennial and come back each year, and some are not. There are also annuals, biennials and shrubs in the group of plants.
Salvia is a large, easy-to-care for group of plants. They like to grow in full-sun conditions with a soil that is well-drained. The National Gardening Association also states that salvia makes good cut flowers and is great for those who garden with the intention of attracting hummingbirds. Salvia is also called "sage" and is both heat-tolerant and drought-tolerant. They are common in midsummer border-garden plantings. Depending on the variety, salvia can grow between 18 inches and 5 feet tall.
