What is the Sandia Corporation?

The Sandia Corporation manages Sandia National Laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. The corporation has roots in World War II and the Manhattan Project. It is currently a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.

Sandia Corporation researches and develops nuclear weapons, defense systems, energy infrastructure technology and nuclear emergency response protocols. The organization focuses on nanotechnologies, microsystems, systems engineering, high-performance computing and extreme-environment testing. Achievements include satellite-based nuclear monitoring and a robotic hand for disarming explosives.

Sandia employs more than 9,000 people at its headquarters in New Mexico and at satellite sites in California, Nevada, Texas and Hawaii.
