As of 2015, the Sanford Zoo, which is also know as the Central Florida Zoo, does not have any elephants as part of its exhibit. The last elephant that resided in the zoo was moved to the Zoo Miami in 2011 after its partner passed away.
The elephant, Maude, passed away at the Zoo Miami on Nov. 27, 2013, at the age of 41. At the Sanford Zoo, Maude had been paired with another elephant named Mary and was part of the zoo's lineup for approximately 30 years. Prior to her passing at the Zoo Miami, Maude had been paired with another elephant named Nellie.
