Saturn was named after the ancient Roman god of agriculture, who was the father of Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Juno, Ceres and Vesta. His name in Greek mythology is Cronos.

In Greek and Roman mythology, Saturn is said to have ruled Earth during the Golden Age: a period of happiness, virtue and social egalitarianism written about by Ovid and Hesiod. The Romans celebrated this god in a festival called Saturnalia every year in late December; this celebration involved a sacrifice and festivities mimicking those of the Golden Age. Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun, has 21 known moons and is the second largest in the solar system.
