What is a Schnauzer-Yorkie mix?

A dog bred by crossing a purebred Miniature Schnauzer with a purebred Yorkshire Terrier is called a Snorkie. A dog of unknown ancestry showing traits of both Miniature Schnauzers and Yorkshire Terriers is called a mixed-breed.

Breeders create Snorkies and other hybrid or designer breeds by crossing purebred dogs from two different breeds in hopes that the puppies have desirable characteristics from both breeds. Hybrid dogs of the same type can be bred to each other or back to either of the parent breeds as a breeder continues to select for desired traits. Only DNA testing can confirm that a mixed breed shares common ancestry with any given pure breed.
