As of 2015, chaga has shown promising results in in-vitro studies; however, further investigation is required to explore the ingredient as an anticancer agent, reports the National Center for Biotechnology Information. Laboratory test results suggest that chaga has the ability to inhibit cancer cells with minimal toxicity to normal cells.
Chaga is an edible fungus that grows on birch and other trees in cold climates, says Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. It has a reputation as a medicinal mushroom in Russia and other North European countries. Chaga tea is a common method of consuming chaga mushroom. Consumers should note that chaga may interact with other drugs.
