The scientific name for a snail is achatinoidea. The snail belongs to the order of the same name, the class of gastropoda and the phylum of mollusca in the kingdom of animalia.
There are three generally accepted types of snails. These are land snails, freshwater snails and sea snails. Snails are found on every continent on the planet with the possible exception of Antarctica. There are close to 1,000 species of snails around the world. Most snails are herbivores and are found in areas with plenty of vegetation. Larger snails can be omnivores and even carnivores. Snails are the prey of a variety of other animals.
