What do sea anemones eat?

As carnivorous invertebrates, sea anemones have a diet largely consisting of fish, worms and zooplankton. Sea anemones use their venomous tentacles to capture their food, which render their prey immobile.

Sea anemones are found all over the world, and there are over 1,000 different species. Sea anemones come in several colors and measure from less than 1 inch in diameter to more than 6 feet. Tropical waters contain the most unique and largest anemone species. These invertebrates can live for at least 50 years. Clownfish are not affected by the sea anemone's typically lethal venom and seek shelter among the tentacles.
