To season ground beef, mix oregano, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin and salt together in a bowl. Brown 1 pound of ground beef, and stir in the seasonings and 1/2 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer, and cook until all of the water is absorbed.
- Make a seasoning mix
Stir together 2 tablespoons of oregano, 1 tablespoon of chili powder, 2 teaspoons of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of cumin and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. For a spicier seasoning, add 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
- Brown the ground beef
Cook 1 pound of lean ground beef in a heavy frying pan over medium heat until it is no longer pink. Do not overcook it. Stir the beef frequently while it is cooking.
- Add the seasonings
Stir in the seasoning mix along with 1/2 cup of water. The water helps the seasonings to distribute evenly through the ground beef.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer
Continue heating the beef and seasoning mixture over medium heat until it comes to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, and cook, stirring frequently until all of the water is absorbed.
