The first episode of "Serial" was aired on Oct. 3, 2014, but "Serial" is a podcast and not a television series. It is a weekly podcast and spin-off of the radio program "This American Life." It was announced in July 2014.
"Serial" explores a nonfiction story in each season through its multiple episodes. The show is co-created by Julie Snyder and Sarah Koenig. As of 2015, it is hosted by Sarah Koenig. The episodes are released online and are free. Upon release, the episodes are automatically downloaded to the subscriber's device. The first season revolved around a crime story. A second season will be released in the fall of 2015, and a third season will be released in the spring of 2016.
