Shakespeare was born in April, 1564 in Stratford-on-Avon, England, which is a market town in Warwickshire. Biographers believe Shakespeare was born on April 23 and baptized on April 26 at Holy Trinity Church.

April 23 is thought to be his birthday because in the age when he was born babies were often baptized three days after their birth.

Shakespeare's parents were John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. They had eight children, and William was the third. John Shakespeare was a fairly prosperous glovemaker who traded in wool, hides and grains. He was also an alderman and became mayor when William was about 4 years old.
