What was the shelter of the subarctic Indians?

The housing structures of subarctic Native people ranged from substantial plank houses to semi-subterranean dwellings, cone- or dome-shaped wigwams and temporary lean-to structures. The subarctic people were nomadic, so shelters needed to be easy to transport to different sites.
Life in the subarctic was not easy for the Native people who lived in this region. The fluctuating seasons made it necessary to live a semi-nomadic life. Springtime brought many tribes to various rivers to gather fish, and in the fall, caribou became the main resource, so many tribes would follow the caribou migration. Subarctic Native people had a largely carnivorous diet, as plant foods were sparse.
