Is the Shiba Inu hypoallergenic?

Shiba Inu dogs are not hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic dogs are meant to produce allergens at a rate that is below normal. However, research indicates that such breeds of dogs may not exist.

No canine is known to be completely hypoallergenic. However, some dogs are promoted as having fewer allergens or as being more compatible with people who have allergies because they have fur that doesn't attract allergy-inducing substances. While allergen levels do vary from dog to dog, this variance is not based on the dog's breed.

Shiba Inu dogs have a double coat with a straight, stiff top and a soft, thick bottom. The hair on their faces, ears and legs is short and smooth.
