What shots do kittens need?

Kittens need a rabies vaccination and another core vaccination that safeguards against feline rhinotracheitis, feline panleukopenia and feline calicivirus, according to PetMD. That vaccination usually comes in one shot to provide protection for all three and can be given when a kitten is 6 weeks old.
The vaccination is administered every three or four weeks until a kitten is 16 weeks old or older. A rabies vaccination can be administered when a kitten is 8 or 12 weeks old, depending on the type of vaccination.
Kittens in certain situations may need additional shots, such as the feline leukemia vaccine or the feline immunodeficiency virus vaccine.
