What should you do if you can't keep food down?

If a person cannot keep food down for a period of over 24 hours, WebMD recommends getting medical care as soon as possible. If that person experiences symptoms of a serious illness, such as a headache with a stiff neck, confusion or vomiting blood, call 911 immediately.
Driniking small amounts of water, sports drinks or other clear liquids may help, according to WebMD. If symptoms improve enough that the person can keep down liquids, then introduce bland foods, such as crackers or bread. Introduce bananas, rice, applesauce and toast later, but do not give any food until all vomiting has stopped.
