Why should you keep product registration forms?

The product registration form is the customer's reference on the product name, model and serial number - data that are required during warranty claims. According to the Federal Trade Commission, companies may require their customers to register their products to be eligible for limited warranty claims.

Another benefit of product registration is that companies can easily inform affected customers during safety recalls. If you registered the product at the store, the form may also contain the name of the outlet, the address, the date of purchase or the name of the salesperson. It is not necessary to give out lifestyle and demographic information when filling out the form, according to the consumer education organization Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.
