Low-sodium cheeses are suitable for low-sodium diets, according to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. Cheeses such as cream cheese, mozzarella and ricotta cheese are all low-sodium alternatives for people following low-salt diets.
One ounce of ricotta cheese has 24 milligrams of sodium, while one ounce of Swiss cheese has 54 milligrams of sodium. Goat’s cheese has 98 milligrams of sodium per ounce, and gruyere cheese has 94 milligrams of sodium per ounce. Nonfat or fat-free cottage cheese has just 9 milligrams per half-cup serving. Regular-fat cream cheese has 86 milligrams of sodium per serving, while its low-fat counterpart has 89 milligrams of sodium per serving.
