What should you consider in a printer ink cartridge?

Some things to consider prior to the purchase of an ink cartridge are its size, kind and color. Not all ink cartridges work with every printer, nor does every color; for example, there are different variations of black that will not print unless installed on a compatible printer. All these differences are specified on the cartridge itself by a number, color or size.

Ink cartridges are generally separated into two categories: toner and ink. Regular printers utilize normal ink cartridges that last up to 500 pages, while inkjet printers use special toner cartridges that can last upwards of 2,000 pages.
