When should you follow up after an interview?

The first key step to a successful interview follow-up is to send an e-mail or handwritten thank-you note to all interviewers. In the note, the candidate references something specific and memorable from the interview as a subtle reminder.
The rest of the follow-up process depends on the interviewer's instructions. In some cases, interviews let a candidate know the timeline for a decision. If not, or if it is past the date given for a decision, an initial follow-up call is warranted. On the call, the candidate just reiterates interest and asks about the decision status. If the process is ongoing, another follow-up call is warranted after the decision date given or within 10 to 14 days of the interview.
