When should you never try to lift an appliance?

People with existing or chronic injuries to the lower back or legs should not attempt to lift or move appliances, nor should people with inadequate physical strength. In addition, it is advisable to use a dolly to move any large appliance a significant distance rather than carrying it.
The National Federation of Independent Businesses recommends use of a dolly when moving heavy objects, such as refrigerators, stoves and other larger appliances, long distances or when moving such appliances up stairs. It is also advisable to have multiple people assist in moving large appliances to help share the load and keep the appliance stable while it is in motion.
