During a first visit to a urologist, a physician evaluates a patient's condition and may run tests such as a urinalysis, X-rays as well as blood and ultrasound tests to make a diagnosis. According to the Department of Urology of the University of Florida, patients may be asked to present to the office with a full bladder for a urine specimen.
When visiting a urologist, the diagnosis is often followed by discussing options. The doctor goes over management and treatment options with the patient and answers all the questions the patient might have. If surgery is necessary, the physician gives the patient more information about the procedure and the risks involved.
