When should you plant okra?

If you are starting the okra seeds indoors, plant them three or four weeks before the last spring frost date for your area, and set them out when the seedlings are 6 weeks old. Otherwise, wait to plant okra until the soil has reached 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
Before planting okra seeds, let them soak in tepid water for 12 to 18 hours, or nick the seed coat with a file. This speeds up the germination process and helps the seed absorb moisture.
It is possible to grow two okra crops per year in the South. Plant the first okra crop in the early part of the spring, and then plant the second okra crop in June.
