Should you pop a blood blister?
By Forinfos - 11/04/2026 - 0 comments
Blood blisters should be left to burst on their own without puncturing them. If they burst, the spots should be cleaned, dried and protected to prevent infections. The blisters will heal naturally without any medication, as stated by NHS.
People with blood blisters usually experience pain. Placing a wrapped ice pack on the spot for 10 to 30 minutes can help reduce the swelling and the pain. Caution should be exercised to avoid the ice touching the affected spot directly. NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, can be used to reduce the inflammation. An ointment can be used to treat an open skin, as stated by WebMD.
