What should you say in a thank you card?

Start the beginning of a thank you card with "Thank you for" and then fill in the gift or service. Explain in the next sentence how the gift or service will be used; in cases such as thanking a person for a letter of recommendation, give a status update.

Thank you cards should close with a personal message that relates to the next time the sender plans to see or communicate with the recipient. For example, "I look forward to seeing you next week at the family reunion!" The message in a thank you card should match the giver's relationship to the recipient. A person likely does not write to her best friend in the same way she writes to her boss.
