Should you get a second opinion if your doctor recommends glasses after cataract surgery?

Needing glasses after cataract surgery is common, so a second opinion is probably not necessary, according to the Mayo Clinic. Because the eyes take time to heal after the surgery, a doctor should be the one to determine when a prescription for glasses is necessary.
Discomfort from cataract surgery usually subsides within a few days and complete healing takes place within 8 weeks. It is then that the doctor will prescribe glasses if necessary. An eye doctor may prescribe eye drops to aid in healing and prevent infection, states Mayo Clinic. If surgery is required on both eyes, most doctors will only operate on one eye at a time. Once the first eye is healed, the second eye can receive the procedure.
