Should vision be cloudy after cataract surgery?

Hazy, cloudy vision can be indicative of a cataract surgery complication such as posterior capsule opacity, according to All About Vision. Posterior capsule opacity is also known as secondary cataract, although it is not related to cataracts. This condition can lead to worse vision than prior to cataract surgery.

Posterior capsule opacity occurs when the integrity of the lens capsule becomes compromised during the recovery period following cataract surgery, All About Vision states. The lens capsule surrounds the natural lens and is the base from which the intraocular lens is implanted. Vision becomes hazy when lens epithelial cells grow along the lens capsule. YAG laser capsulotomy is a simple, safe treatment for posterior capsule opacity.
