See a doctor for foot pain if the pain is persistent and does not improve after several weeks, states Mayo Clinic. Also schedule an appointment if the pain is accompanied by swelling that does not decrease after two to five days of self treatment.
Another condition that needs to be checked out by the doctor includes pain that is accompanied by a numbness, tingling or burning sensation, especially if it encompasses most or all of the bottom of the foot, according to Mayo Clinic. If severe swelling or pain is present, the foot cannot bear weight, or the foot shows signs of infection, seek immediate emergency care. This is especially important for diabetics.
