When should you start tummy time?

Tummy time should be started from day one of the baby's life to prevent a delay in the development of important motor skills. The experience being on his tummy helps a baby learn how to roll over, sit up, crawl and push up.
According to pediatrician Danette Glassy, it is best to join your baby on the floor during tummy time. Encouraging him during this time is also a good idea. Playing peek-a-boo, making funny faces or playing with toys makes the time for fun for your baby. You can even do leg lifts or crunches to encourage your baby to mimic your movements.
