Should you water your lawn in autumn?

Water the lawn in autumn if the weather is dry for a prolonged period, notes Colorado State University Extension. Allowing roots to remain dried out may damage plants.

Water the lawn twice per week in autumn if there is no rain. If using a sprinkler system to water the lawn, set the sprinklers to turn on before dawn and run approximately 20 minutes. If watering by hand, water early in the morning at approximately the same time for each watering session, states Lawn Care. Avoid watering when temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and stop watering the lawn when plants go into dormancy if living in a northern climate.
