Is Sicily a state, country or city?
By Forinfos - 04/07/2025 - 0 comments
Sicily is an autonomous region of Italy, which is somewhat analogous to a state. It is divided into nine provinces, including Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna and Messina. Other provinces of Sicily are Palermo, Ragua, Siracusa and Trapani. Surrounding islands are also considered part of Sicily's provinces.
The government of Sicily is democratic and headed by a president, as of 2015. The president, elected for a five-year term, presides over the regional cabinet. Sicily's legislative branch is made up of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, which has 90 deputies. Eighty of these deputies are elected. The presidential candidate who came in second is also seated in the assembly.
