Ankle bracelets are known to have a significant meaning in the underground sexual subcultures in the USA. The bracelets signify the sexual availability of the people wearing them.

Whereas a right anklet means you are taken, a left anklet means you are available. Anklets on both sides mean you are both taken and open to others. However, most people in the U.S. who wear anklets do so only for adornment/decoration.
