What do silver dollar fish eat?

Silver dollar fish are herbivores and feed on plants when in the wild, but silver dollar fish in captivity can be fed fish food, raw leafy greens, cooked vegetables or algae tablets. Pet silver dollar fish should be fed a few times each day.

If a silver dollar fish lives in the same tank with more aggressive fish, it is important to supervise feeding times to make sure the aggressive fish do not eat all of the food. Even though they are vegetarians, silver dollar fish will eat blood worms, mosquito larvae and brine shrimp. These items should be considered a treat not a regular meal.
