Do silverfish bite people?
By Forinfos - 30/01/2026 - 0 comments
The insects known as silverfish do not bite humans. When challenged or surprised, they run away rather than attack or defend themselves. They are experts at hiding in hard-to reach areas. These creatures are typically nocturnal.
Silverfish live on sugars and starches. To obtain these, they consume things such as book glue, linen, silk and dead insects. Their nests are likely to be found near food supplies. Although they do not bite people, silverfish leave holes in objects that they feed on, including paper, books, clothes, wallpaper and packages of food. Silverfish prefer damp areas and are often found in bathrooms, under sinks and in garages.
