What are six terrestrial biomes?

Six examples of terrestrial biomes include the tundra, rainforest, savanna, taiga, desert and alpine. Biomes are basically different geographical regions across the world with similar climatic characteristics and wildlife.

Terrestrial biomes can also be referred to as land biomes and are distributed throughout the globe. Below are specific examples of these biomes and some details about them.

• Tundra biome - this is the coldest of all the biomes and is known for being quite expansive. It experiences very limited rainfall making it the driest of all biomes. It is basically a vast plain without trees.
• Rainforest biome - this can further be divided into temperate and tropical rainforest. This biome is known for its richness in wildlife and green cover. It helps the world maintain its climatic patterns since water from its trees fall as rain in other regions.
• Savanna biome - this biome is characterized by grass covering in vast plains. Savannas also include some trees.
• Taiga biome - this biome is the largest of all and experiences shorter winter days and longer summer days. The biome has limited plant diversity with the most common plants being conifers.
• Desert biome - there are hot deserts and cold deserts with the largest hot desert being the Sahara in Africa while Antarctica is the largest cold desert.
• Alpine biome - this biome is mainly located in mountainous regions and features snowy environments.
