The skills tested in the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation motorcycle driver?s license skills test are left circles, right circles and figure eights. The rider is also required to perform a pre-trip inspection. A skills test can also be completed through a motorcycle safety program.
A motorcycle license in Pennsylvania is also called a Class M license. The first step towards obtaining the license is passing a basic motorcycle knowledge test. The rider can then apply for a Class M learner's permit. There is a fee for the learner's permit.
After obtaining the learner's permit, a rider can operate his a motorcycle during daytime hours only. If the rider doesn't have a driver's license, he must be supervised by someone who has a Class M license. He can't carry any passengers that don't have a Class M license.
A skills test can be scheduled by an adult rider as soon as he feels ready. Any rider under the age of 18 is required to have a learner's permit for six months and ride under instructor supervision for at least 65 hours. He must also complete a Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program Basic Rider Course. The course includes 15 hours of supervised riding that count towards the 65 hour minimum.
