What is "slope" in math?

Slope, in math, is defining how steep a line is. A line has a positive slope if it moves upward towards the right, and a negative slope when the line moves downwards to the right. A line's slope has a value of zero when it is horizontal.

To find the slope of a line, two points that lie on the line are needed. The equation for a slope is (y2 -y1) divided by (x2 - x1). Designate each of the points as point 1 and point 2. Input the numbers into the equation to determine the amount of change from each of the points.
