The Smith & Wesson 4506 is a .45 semi-automatic pistol from the 4500 series produced from 1998 to 1999. The third-generation pistol bears a rounded butt in contrast to the straight butt of the second-generation 645 model it replaced.
The double-action/single-action pistol has a barrel length of 5 inches and uses eight-round magazines. The slide features a mounted combination de-cocker and safety lever. Other details include Xenoy wraparound grips, a magazine disconnect, plunger-type firing pin safety and is equipped with a pin-mounted pivoting spring-actuated external extractor. The firearm is constructed almost entirely of stainless steel and weighs roughly 3 pounds when loaded.
