The Wet-Nap was invented in 1958 by Arthur Julius. It was the first pre-moistened paper product designed for easy use. The Wet-Nap gained widespread use once it was included with Kentucky Fried Chicken meals beginning in 1962.
Julius met with "Colonel" Harlan Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, in 1962. Although the marketing slogan for Kentucky Fried Chicken was "finger lickin' good," Julius suggested adding a pre-moistened wipe to the meals. Sanders agreed and became the first client for the Wet-Nap, which Julius' company, Nice-Pak Products, manufactured. Other restaurants followed suit, offering Wet-Nap and other pre-moistened wipes after messy meals.
