Where are the Smoky Mountains located?

The Great Smoky Mountains run along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina in the Southeastern United States. As of 2014, 9 million people visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park annually for hiking, sightseeing and camping. It is the most popular national park in the United States.

The Smoky Mountains played an important role in the Civil War. The area served as a natural divide between the mostly Union supporters on the Tennessee side of the mountains and the mostly Confederate supporters on the North Carolina side.

People traveling through the area can expect to spend several hours driving through the Smoky Mountains.
