The Georgia mountains are located in the extreme northeast corner of the state of Georgia in the United States. They are part of the Appalachian mountain chain, which ends in Georgia. The mountains in this region turn westerly and widen to 60 miles across in some places.
The mountains' elevations vary from 1,600 to 4,700 feet. The largest range in the area is the Blue Ridge, which extends nearly 100 miles into Georgia. It is known for its scenic beauty and rugged terrain. Some of the smaller ranges to the west are the Unakas, the Cumberland Plateau and the Cohuttas. The U.S. Forest Service manages most of the region, which is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest.
