Schuyler, the real-life inspiration for the fictional town of Walton's Mountain, is in Virginia. The small town ? pronounced "sky-ler" ? lies approximately 70 miles southwest of Richmond, the state capital, and sits within the Blue Ridge Mountain range.
Walton's Mountain was the name of the town in the television series, "The Waltons." The show followed the life and times of the Walton family through the Great Depression and World War II. Schuyler offers a Walton's Mountain museum, dedicated to the show and its creator Earl Hammer, who grew up in the town. The museum sits across the street from Hammer's boyhood home.
