The Poconos Mountains, commonly referred to as "The Poconos," are located in northeastern Pennsylvania. The highest point is Camelback Mountain, sometimes called Big Pocono, with an elevation of 2,133 feet.

The Poconos is a popular tourist destination with opportunities for hiking, camping, water sports and hunting. The word "Pocono" comes from the Lenape tribe. It means "land between streams." The area became popular with tourists in the early 1900s. Served by several state and U.S. highways, the region is easily accessible by car.

Known for its beautiful fall colors, the area contains more than 80 percent of Pennsylvania's resorts, as of 2015.
