What is a snitch list?

A snitch list is an updating list that keeps track of known or suspected informants. The individuals on such lists vary based on the circle keeping the list.

Common types of individuals listed in these listings include infiltrators and undercover agents who assume false names or identities in order to gather more information on groups or organizations. Another type of individual listed is an informant. These individuals are not under the employ of law enforcement agencies, but they typically provide law enforcement agencies with information in exchange for money and other benefits. Cooperating witnesses may also appear, but they provide information after threats of legal action.
