Snowstorms are storms characterized by a significant volume of snow with accompanying high wind. A massive snowstorm with intense snowfall and strong winds that lasts for a long period of time is called a blizzard.
A winter storm is another term used for a snowstorm. It is an occurrence in which certain types of precipitation occur due to low temperatures. The temperature is low enough to allow the formation of ice and produce freezing rain. This kind of storm happens not only during the winter season, but even in late autumn or early spring. Snowstorms can be responsible for serious traffic problems and school closings.
