To soak up water from a carpet, first remove the carpet and padding from the floor. Set up large fans to blow air directly on the carpets. Turn on an air conditioner or dehumidifier. Apply baking soda to the dry carpet, and leave it on for one hour.
- Remove the carpet and padding
Pull off a corner of the carpet using pliers. Remove the carpet and padding from the floor by pulling them away from the tack strips.
- Set up fans
Set up large fans to dry the carpet. The fans should blow air directly on the carpet from about 14 feet away. Additionally, turn on an air conditioner or dehumidifier if possible.
- Apply baking soda
Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet when it is dry in order to remove excess moisture or odors. Leave the baking soda on for one hour, then vacuum it up.
