How do you soften a Carhartt jacket?

In order to soften fabric on a Carhartt jacket or other clothing item, such as one made with denim, add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle on the smallest setting in the washing machine or hand wash and rinse with cool water. Read and adhere to the clothing's washing instructions and do not wash different colors together to prevent the colors from fading or transferring.

Alternative methods of softening clothes include adding 3 tablespoons of baking soda to the wash or adding 1/4 cup of fabric softener to the final rinse. Homemade fabric softener can be used by combining 2 cups of white vinegar, 2 cups of baking soda and 4 cups of water.
