To soften a leather jacket, dampen a clean soft cloth with a mild liquid soap solution, and rub the jacket one section at a time. Make sure the jacket is completely dry before conditioning the surface of the material.
- Hang the jacket
Place the jacket on a clothes hanger, and hang it in a doorway. Ensure there is good lighting, but keep the jacket away from direct sunlight.
- Clean the leather
Create soapy mixture by putting a teaspoon of liquid soap into a gallon of cold water. Use an unscented dish soap or a mild baby wash. Wet a soft clean cloth, and wring out excess water so that the cloth is not too damp. Do not saturate the leather. Clean the jacket one section at a time by rubbing each section with the damp cloth and drying the leather with dry, clean cloths.
- Condition the jacket
Ensure the jacket is completely dry. Using a leather conditioner, and carefully following application directions, apply conditioner to the leather jacket one section at a time. Allow the jacket to dry away from direct sunlight, and check the leather softness. A second application of leather conditioner can be used to soften the material further if required.
