Why is soil a renewable resource?

Soil is not a renewable resource, but a non-renewable resource, because it takes up to millions of years for soil creation. The breaking down of rocks and other matter is responsible for the creation of soil. Soil is non-renewable because a constant source is not readily available.

Soil is responsible for determining which plants can grow in an area. Different types of soil have different nutrients and provide certain conditions for what grows in that specific area. There are 12 different types of soil throughout the earth and these include:

• Alfisols
• Entisols
• Inceptisols
• Oxisols
• Ultisols
• Andisols
• Aridisols
• Histosols
• Mollisols
• Spodosols
• Gelisols
• Vertisols

Soil is in layers referred to as soil horizons, and the different layers range from organic and rich at the very top, to rocky toward the bottom.
