There are no restrictions for air travel following cataract surgery, according to the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. However, patients must show up at their scheduled post-operative appointments, Gary Foster, M.D. advises.
Patients typically see their eye doctors within one or two days of cataract surgery, WebMD states. About a week later, there is another appointment. The doctor also checks on the eye's healing process a month after the procedure.
If traveling by air, cataract patients should ensure that emergency health care is available in the unlikely event of complications, advises Gary Foster, M.D. The use of artificial tears helps avoid dry eyes during the flight.
