Is sore eyes a normal cold symptom?

Sore eyes that last a week or more and result after a cold may be a sign of a sinus infection, according to WebMD. Sore eyes are not a common symptom of a cold. If soreness is present, especially on one side, it is likely more than a cold.
Common cold symptoms include a sore throat, runny nose and cough. Slight fevers, especially in children, may also be symptoms of a cold, according to WebMD. Thickened mucus is a sign of a cold. However, if the mucus causes pain in the eye or face for a week or longer, it may be a bacterial infection or sinusitis. This condition may or may not require antibiotics, but it is important to contact a doctor.
